In this section of the website I am including work I have done in the field of Publication Design. This includes both Magazine Design and Book Design. In the Magazine Design section I included cover design as well as interior spread layout design.
Both Gravity and Reactions magazines were speculative assignments for new science magazines that would be marketed in the similar vein as Discover and Scientific American magazines. I was asked to not only design the cover branding but to design a table of contents page and to also design some interior double page spreads for specific articles provided to me. The Gravity magazines double page spread was for a article titled "Living Liquid" which was a story on cryogenic vats that were filed with a embryonic fluid that promoted DNA growth. The Reactions magazines double page spread was for a article titled "The New Breed" which was a story on cross breed cloning.
This Book Design section includes various book cover designs. The designs incorporate typography with illustration and 3D modeling designs. All designs are book jacket designs that wrap across the cover spine and back of the book. Of course areas were left for UPS symbols to be printed onto the covers. A marriage of design elements and techniques were involved from watermarking, ligature and drop caps and spot varnishing. For the presentation I included both the flat version of the design and a 3D mockup presentation.
In this section I include some of the process and explorations I go through to narrow down the design to its final design. Various iterations are shown which show slight variations of the final design that was chosen.
